Carrier Community (CC) is a global telecom club established since 2008 and organising annual global carrier community meetings in Cape Town since 2015 for their members. CC is organizing its 4th annual AFRICA 2018 GCCM – Cape Town which takes place at the The Table Bay Hotel Cape Town on the 11th & 12th November 2018. At the AFRICA 2018 GCCM – Cape Town event our Member Carriers will have the opportunity to meet 450+ delegates representing decision-makers from the Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3.

The Carrier Members will meet together from Voice, Data, SMS, Mobile, VAS, ISP, IX, Cable, Satellite, Data centers, Content Providers and other related segments.

Nikki also held managerial roles at Gateway Communications, where she established multiple interconnects with organisations such as Safaricom and Ethiopia Telecoms; and Cable & Wireless, for whom she sold services in sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. Nikki is passionate about Africa and feels privileged to have seen and taken part in the technological advances that have occurred over the years. Dr. Inderpal Singh Mumick

Biography

A serial entrepreneur, with over two decades of working in the telecom environment, Dr. Inderpal Singh Mumick is the Founder and CEO of Kirusa, a global leader in providing communication solutions over data networks for consumers and enterprises. Previously Dr. Mumick had co-founded Savera Systems, Murray Hill, NJ, where he was the CEO and CTO. During his tenure, the company successfully developed its sales and marketing strategies and became an innovator in web-based billing and designed billing software for transactions between IP and telecom carriers. The Sunrise research Project at AT&T Bell Labs, which led to numerous billing initiatives, was pioneered by him.

Over the years, he has partnered with a host of network carriers and delivered some of the most ingenious mobile services that have effectively penetrated the telecom ecosystems of relevant markets. Kirusa’s clients include Airtel, Vodafone, Tata DoCoMo, Idea Cellular, TNM, Etisalat, MTN, Vivo, Econet, Glo, Orange, etc.

 Dr. Mumick has eighteen issued patents, over ten patent pending applications, and more than 40 technical papers in leading journals and conferences to his credit.  He is also a frequent speaker at conferences and trade shows around the world and has spoken at events like Africa IT and Telecom Forum, Convergence India, Mobile 360 Series Colombia, SMS and Messaging Summit at Capacity Africa, IEEE WCNC, ACG, NJTC Internet of Things, Stanford Alumni Startups NY, ITU Telecom World, AfricaCom, etc. There has been significant coverage on Dr. Mumick in media articles by magazines like Forbes, IT Web Africa, IT News Africa, European Communications, Silicon India and The Hindustan Times. He has been named amongst the ‘Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business 2017’ by the Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC). He was also a finalist in the Ernst and Young, CEO of the year Awards, 2014.

 Dr. Mumick received a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engg from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India in 1986, where he was awarded the President's Gold Medal and a Ph.D.  in Computer Science from Stanford University in 1991.  He further completed Mini MBAs in Finance and General Management from the AT&T School of Business in 1996 and 1998, and an Executive MBA for Growing Companies from Stanford University in 2000. Dr. Mumick is listed in various Marquis Who's Who publications.

Prior to this I was at Oracle leading the Southern and Central Africa region as the Sales Director. Prior to this I joined IBM in Nov 2000 where I fulfilled a number of different roles over the 14 years I was there, the role prior to leaving was heading up the Business Partner Organisation for IBM South Africa.

John Melick is the co-founder and Chairman of the Djibouti Data Center (DDC).  He has over 25 years of international telecommunications experience.  Prior to the DDC, John was part of the co-founding management team of a global telecom company that grew from a start-up to a publicly traded (USA-NYSE) Fortune 1000 company with over USD $1+ billion in annualized revenue, and operations in fourteen countries.  John holds a Bachelor’s degree (BA) from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Science (MS) degree from the George Washington University in Washington D.C.

Biography

Andy is Chief Operating Officer of Seaborn. He is responsible for leading all aspects of Seaborn’s global operations and engineering. Over the past three decades, Andy has developed and brought into operation numerous transoceanic and regional submarine cable systems connecting Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

Andy previously served as Head of Regional Submarine Networks at Global Marine Systems, a preeminent subsea cable installation company. Prior to Global Marine, Andy was an early member of Global Crossing’s Network Team, where he brought into service all of Global Crossing’s submarine networks, and he led engineering and implementation of network upgrades and provisioning of customer circuits on the global submarine network. He also led planning, construction, and operation of Global Crossing’s global NOC

Andy began his submarine telecom career with FLAG (FEA Submarine System), where he was responsible for the successful commissioning and bringing into service of all 15 segments of the Europe to Asia submarine system and for the centralized management of the entire system from the FNOC in Fujairah, UAE.

Most recently, Andy led the project management for a new 1,240 km submarine fiber optic cable system linking Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname.

Andy served in the Royal Air Force where he received a degree in Electronic Engineering and Aerospace Studies, and thereafter entered the telecom industry with NYNEX in the UK.
